The Monster Modal Meltdown with Sean McGee is something of a unique radioshow in these days of disposable, throwaway media. Catering for all fans of guitar instrumental music, the show features instrumental rock, metal, prog, funk, jazz, fusion, in fact, if it sounds great, it’s on! We are broadcast weekly, around the globe through the internet radio medium.

To help with holding an even better coverage, the show also has a home as an audio podcast on Spotify, which acts as both a catch up service for those who miss the weekly broadcasts but also as a standalone service for downloadable content for the listener on the move. The host is myself, Sean McGee, a passionate musician and composer. This show is a real labour of love for me ramping up over 200 episodes thus far. The reason for this show’s existence is very simple. When asked to create a brand new show for a friend’s radio station, I was tasked with creating a show with a strong unique identity and U.S.P……..not an average rock show! I wanted to create a show to give something back to all the amazing guitar players who had inspired me to learn this incredible instrument all those years ago. I realized that nobody was championing their highly skilful and under appreciated talents, so I built the show from the ground up using my own recording studio as a show base. Once I’d polished my technique I spoke with other stations, spreading that out around the world. I’m proud to say most were also interested in trying out my ideas and for the past 3 years they’ve all helped me become something of a miniature success story within the genre.

I now have a waiting list for musicians and industry people to appear on the show for interview. Previous guests include Jennifer Batten, Hoekstra, Patrick Rondat, Mika Tyyska and Geoff Tyson.

All these players have expressed how great it is that there is a show like this out there, to spread the word for them, and to extend their reach. It’s important to say I don’t just concentrate on the larger artistes within the genre either, but also the bedroom guys and girls who are producing incredible music completely on there own. This show is a real lifeline for especially these musicians. We provide the foundation for them to spread their music way further.

I’m now broadcast in the UK, America, Australia, South America and Europe and have a full blanket coverage whereby there’s always somewhere to hear my show, somewhere in the world on any given day of the week. Not too bad for just a guy with a mic and a passion who wanted to share this amazing genre for more listeners to enjoy.

Although I cannot possibly quantify the actual listener base for the show, globally, I’d like to realistically suggest that given it’s unique nature, we are talking about thousands and much more importantly, with an almost infinite opportunity to grow exponentially. The internet’s the limit!
